I viewed Day Shift (Netflix)

Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are the stars of the new vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The movie follows the story of a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

The opening scene in "Day Shift" is a crazy action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire, which then becomes this nuts fight sequence between the two of them that is such a blast. This kind of ragdoll physics makes the action scenes really pop. I think the movie does a better job than most action movies on Netflix or blockbusters. When you watch a scene like this, it is easy to remember the old saying "action speaks louder that words", and while I agree with the statement, I think the key to "Day Shift's" success is the way it uses dialogue and action to develop the characters and further the plot. Jamie Foxx's vampire-killing scene ends with him having a funny and dry conversation about how he thought she would turn into a bat or some other creature. These moments are what make "Day Shift" stand out from other similar films.

Day Shift has a lot of fun and is not too serious. I was able to enjoy it the entire way. It had original action and didn't require me to think too much. I enjoyed it immensely. It had humor and I laughed a lot. It also referenced some great vampire films like Blade and The Lost Boys, which are also some of my favourite films. The acting was excellent, the directing was fantastic (view source) and the cinematography was very good. Day Shift is an enjoyable movie that's not too serious and easy to watch. It's a lot fun.

Day Shift was mixed. While there were some good action scenes, and some interesting characters (the two brothers, Seth), the villain was terrible, and there were a lot mediocre characters. I suppose that helps the more talented characters shine. There seemed to be missing scenes that were cut. Bud's neighbor acts as if they are friends even though she had only 3 minutes of screentime before the final scene. Bud making prank calls at the gas station while he was working at his job is the best part. It was hilarious, and I loved watching it. However, the movie didn't end as well. Day Shift is mixed. There are good parts, and there are bad parts. But if you're looking for a few laughs, you could do worse than this movie.

Snoop Dogg makes this movie well worth it. Snoop Dogg is loved by everyone. He's the definition of cool.
