Movie review: Hatchet 3 (2013) (Decker Shado movie review)

Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film from 2013. It chronicles Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as well as his violent murderous rampage. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

Its use of special effects is the main strength of this movie. Unlike many modern horror movies which rely heavily on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific moments throughout the film.

Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast, and he's an intimidating villain. The dialogue is reminiscent of an 1980s slasher movie. It is witty and hilarious. There are also (blog post) some hilarious moments that stand out in all the heart-wrenching scenes.

Unfortunately, due to the budget being small (1 million dollars) most locations were duplicates of previous films. Hatchet 2's boat house was only used once and the rest of the footage feels like it was reused from earlier films. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel it's a familiar film.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior installments in the series. It also offered plenty of gory thrills and some entertaining performances by the actors.
