Robocop doesn't have a lot of subtlety, but Paul Verhoeven’s humor is. It's not surprising that Robocop's humor is so obvious, as it perfectly suits the movie's tone. Everything is presented in a way to critique the gap between rich and poor, and also the increasing industrialism that has swept the country. It seems funny at first, but with the current state of businesses and their desire to reach unsuspecting citizens, all of this goes ahead to solidify the relevance of Paul Verhoeven's social commentary. The dystopian world can be broken down into smaller pieces. This includes the news coverage, the goals of the businessmen and vulgar advertising. All of (check here) it makes perfect sense of the society's insatiable need to "advance."
