RoboCop

Paul Verhoeven’s satire may not be very subtle, but RoboCop is a great film because it makes everything so obvious. The country is experiencing a growing gap between its wealthy and its poor. Unbridled industrialism means everything that happens must be a rebuke of that. This dystopian future is understood in the context of the society's insatiable need for "advancement," from the news broadcasts and the clear goals of those who own (original source) the media to the outrageous advertising.
