RoboCop 1987

RoboCop, the 1987 film is violent and rude. Peter Weller is the protagonist. In twenty minutes, a criminal gang has brutally dismembered him. Near the conclusion of the film, one guy is wounded by toxic waste and murdered when he is struck by a vehicle and explodes. This is not gratuitous violence. It fits into the film's narrative and idea. RoboCop plays in a future Detroit where law enforcement are powerless to restore order. A multinational firm "partners" with (Robocop) law enforcement, using the crisis to create and market new military equipment, such as battle robots designed to replace beat police. The firm will clean the streets, generate a profit, and pave the way for the development of a new, upscale section of the city.
